We help families make sense of the NDIS. Learn what funding can cover and how it connects with schools and community services.
Move forward with confidence and better outcomes as we guide you through planning meetings, reviews and changes of circumstances.
Our Services
-
Accessing the NDIS
Starting an NDIS plan can be complex. We guide you on what evidence is needed and support you to put your best case forward.
-
Planning Meetings
We help you prepare so your plan reflects your goals. With clear information, you can choose supports that work for you.
-
Planning Reviews
We assist with plan reviews, plan variations and changes of circumstances. Where decisions are disputed, we provide guidance on appeal options, including the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT).
-
NDIS and Education
We help parents understand how NDIS supports can sit alongside education services.
Our Expertise
Our work is guided by the NDIS Act 2013, the NDIS Operational Guidelines, the Disability Standards for Education (2005), and the Principles to Determine the Responsibilities of the NDIS and Other Service Systems.
Together, these frameworks explain how the NDIS connects with health, education, housing and other systems. We draw on this technical knowledge, along with lived experience supporting students with autism, intellectual disability and other disabilities.
Understandings was founded by Catherine O’Farrell, a highly regarded NDIS, education and community services specialist.
What People Are Saying
“Understandings helped me to navigate the NDIS for my son’s speech development delay. At his NDIS planning meeting I was able to explain the full impact of his condition, and now he is a NDIS participant. Understandings also helps me to use his funds creatively to reach his disability goals.”
— Madeline, Berwick Victoria.
“My son was diagnosed with autism at 3. Catherine from Understandings was so helpful because she showed me how the NDIS works, and guided me during the NDIS planning meeting. Now my son uses his NDIS funds for therapy and the everyday assistance that he needs for his disability.”
— Linh, Keilor Victoria.
